It's almost football time!
The first game is on August 30th at 7 PM against Louisiana-Monroe. This game will be televised on ESPN GamePlan starting at 7:00 PM.
The second game vs. Southern Mississippi will be televised on ESPN GamePlan at 12:30 PM on September 6th. We will be watching this game at the Field House (site of the former Independence Brew Pub), which is at 12th and Filbert in Center City. We will be on the first floor (street level) in front of the big screen TV.
The third game vs. Mississippi State will be televised at 7:00 PM on ESPN2 on September 13th. The Field House may not have space available for that game, so we may have to go somewhere else. I've been talking to the people at the Urban Saloon (across from Eastern State Penitentiary and near the Art Museum) about watching the game there. Dave and Buster's on Columbus and McFadden's at 3rd and Callowhill are also talking to me about watching games this season.
Please let me know what you think about the various locations. The Field House is good for mass transit, but the parking is too expensive. The other places have cheaper parking, but are not as good for mass transit.
I'd like to welcome the newest member of the Philly Auburn Club: Sarah and Jason had a baby boy named Jackson Gregory on 8/2/08! If anybody wants to see pictures, let Kurt know.
In other news, the next SEC Happy Hour – Drinking with the Enemy 4 – will be held on Thursday, August 28th. It will be from 6PM to 8PM (or later) at Cavanaugh's River Deck at 417 North Columbus Blvd in Philadelphia. Admission is $10 for 2 hours of free drinks that includes most beer and well drinks. There will also be some amount of free food – though I am not sure what. Let me know if you plan to attend so I can send you more info as it becomes available. This was a big success the last three years, and several of you made it there for your first club event.
Several current and former Auburn athletes are participating in the Summer Olympics starting Friday. To see information on these Tigers, click here:
